Ashford Castle is a 5 star hotel on the banks of Loch Corrib with the River Cong running through its grounds. Visitors are welcome to explore the fabulous gardens for a small fee and there is a separate restaurant and gift shop in the grounds, both open to non-residents. Afternoon tea in the castle is a great treat, also available to non-residents

Ballinrobe Golf Course lies just outside the town and visitors are most welcome. It is a fabulous 18 hole parkland golf course, recently being voted the best in Connacht. There is a floodlit driving range open to non-members

The village of Cong is a 15 minute drive away and has become a very popular tourist attraction on the back of the 1952 movie The Quiet Man, starring John Wayne and Mareen O'hara. There are ample shops, restaurants, cafes, gift shops, art galleries and beautiful riverside walks to make a visit to Cong very worthwhile

There are several restaurants and cafes in Ballinrobe and a variety of take away restaurants to cater for all tastes. The Bowers and Flannery's are both recommended. And if you are self-catering, there are 4 supermarkets in Ballinrobe; Aldi, Centra, Supervalu and Tesco and there are mini-markets in the 3 local filling stations, which are normally open late

A "must have" experience is to take one of the daily cruises on Lough Corrib, departing from Lisloughrey Bay or Ashford Castle. There are 2 different cruises; 1 hour history cruise (365 days per year) and a 2 hour island cruise (1st June to 30th September)
The Bower’s Walk in Ballinrobe, is a beautiful and easy walk, which stretches for approximately 3 kilometres along the River Robe, starting at the bridge on Bridge Street towards Creagh Bridge along the old towpath of the canal. You can return the same way or join the Creagh Road, turning right at the gate at the top of shallow steps, which will bring you back into town (6kms). Please close that gate!

Corrib cruise to the Historic Island of Inchagoill

Ballinrobe Racecourse is on the doorstep of Aghinish Rocks and has a summer calendar of National Hunt Race meetings, every year from May to September, with races mostly taking place in the evening. The racecourse has a slightly elevated right-handed track and boasts an exceptional view of every stride. The racecourse has a rare rustic feel to it – Loughs Corrib, Carra and Mask are all located within a few miles. When you take your place in, or to the front of, the Grand Stand, you look out on a charming course. You can see virtually every stride taken by the horses as they jostle for victory
